The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a major honors show approaches, you'll find an outcry for the addition fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
